Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), frequently referred to as tapping, is an evidence-aware somatic self-regulation practice. It integrates cognitive focus on an acute emotional stressor with gentle tactile stimulation on specific acupressure points on the face and upper body.
When we experience acute anxiety or psychological distress, the amygdala signals a stress alarm, elevating heart rate, shortening breath, and triggering sympathetic nervous system dominance.
Clinical research indicates that tapping on acupoints sends calming signals to the amygdala, de-escalating physiological arousal while the mind processes the distressing memory or anticipatory fear.
In our coaching practice, EFT is employed as an emotional regulation coaching tool. It helps clients manage acute stage fright, performance anxiety, fear of conflict, and emotional overwhelm.
EFT provides clients with an accessible, empowering practice they can utilize independently whenever tension threatens their equilibrium.
